The new Animation In Europe board

Austria, Latvia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Armenia have all joined as members of Animation in Europe (AIE), the federation of animation producers in Europe.

The first five listed countries have joined as full members, via their national animation associations, while Armenia has joined as an associate member.

The organisation has also elected a new board of film and series producers from across the continent.

The new board members are Ivan Agenjo of Spain’s DIBOOS/ProAnimats, Philippe Alessandri of AnimFrance, Annemie Degryse of Belgium Flanders’ VOFTP, Moe Honan of Animation Ireland, Robert Jaszczurowski of Poland’s SPPA and Reka Temple of Hungary’s HAPA.

The specific roles within the new board – including the election of the president and vice-presidents – will be defined during its first meeting, scheduled for late June or early July.

AIE has also set four strategic priorities for 2025-26:

  • The upcoming revision of the AVMS Directive, aiming for stronger support of the animation sector within the European Union.
  • The development of a European carbon footprint calculator tailored to the animation industry.
  • Support for Anima Mundi, an academic research initiative examining the cultural, economic and environmental impact of European animation.
  • A constructive dialogue with European broadcasters to rethink the business model for animated series and promote original content.

AIE is set to host a conference on Thursday (June 12) at Annecy film festival titled ‘All on the same boat’, to open a conversation with broadcasters about their contribution to financing European animated series.

“After less than a decade, Animation in Europe has succeeded in federating 27 countries and 30 associations within the EU and in becoming a key discussion partner of the European Commission on essential topics such as the regulation and the MEDIA programme,” said AIE chairman Alessandri.
