Damson Idris and Anamaria Vartolomei have signed to play jazz icon Miles Davis and French singer Juliette Gréco in the romance Miles & Juliette for director Bill Pohland.

Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearlman’s Jagged Films are producing the film in association with the Miles Davis Estate. Robert Glasper will compose and produce the score.

Goodfellas and CAA Media Finance are launching Cannes sales.

Zora Howard wrote the screenplay to the story which follows Davis as he embarks on what will become a transformative trip in 1949 to Paris where he falls into a passionate romance with Gréco, the French singer, actress, and Left Bank icon. Early in their careers, both artists were poised to become cultural legends.

Idris, whose credits include Snowfall and the upcoming F1, and Anamaria Vartolomei, whose credits include Happening and Mickey 17, star alongside Xavier Dolan.

Pohland, whose directing credits include Love & Mercy and Dreamin’ Wild, will produce under his River Road Entertainment alongside Kim Roth.

“This story isn’t just about Miles Davis and Juliette Gréco,” said Pohlad, It’s about the universal rhythm of falling in love, of being transformed by it, and of carrying its echo with you long after the moment has passed.”
